In partnership with families, local school districts and other services providers, KSD functions as a statewide education center where students come first.

Key
Responsibilities:
Assist classroom teachers with instructional needs.
Collaborate with teachers and accept direction guidance from teachers.
Assist with the preparation of instructional materials.
Assist students in the classroom with moving from one building to another for classes and field trips.
Work individually with students or in small groups.
May cover class lesson when necessary.
Perform light office duties such as copying, distribution of Individualized Education Plans, computer work, filing and phone calls.
Supervise lunchroom and bus duty as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Preferred
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
American Sign Language (ASL) skills Minimum Requirements EDUCATION:
High School graduate EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS:
Two (2) years of experience working within a school or classroom environment.
Substitute EDUCATION for
Experience:
Additional education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION:
None SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.
):
An employee in this job title at the Kentucky School for the Deaf must furnish to the agency's appointing authority within twelve (12) months of appointment or entrance into this class, documentation that he or she possesses the Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI) rating of Survival level.
Working Conditions Work is typically performed for 11 months (August-June) in an office or classroom setting assisting teachers and assisting students who are hearing impaired and/or vision impaired.
Probationary Period This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.
